linear & a tiny bit of process work for an illustration based on mary shelley's frankenstein. it was changed a bit for the final, but basically the same. i would post the inked black and white, and the colour version, but i spilled coffee all over them, like any real student would do.

i haven't updated this thing in almost a month. mostly because i spent the majority of december not doing anything except socializing, working and sleeping. but now i'm into my second week of my second semester of my second year and i still have nothing to share, ha!

my mind's been a bit dry lately, and i'm finding it increasingly hard to sketch for assignments when i'd rather be reading or listening to music. and this sucks completely and is starting to stress me out since things are due and i have teachers to impress. dear self, snap out of this quick! (sorry for the bummer post, but i kind of needed to get this out.)

but, on a brighter side, the wonderful katie carey has launched a blog dedicated to sheridan illustrators; check it out here. even better, start your own tumblr and click that little "follow" icon at the top right-hand corner of the page. it's going to be interesting to see how everyone i know in second year progresses, as well as seeing what other illustrators in other years are doing.

first semester ended a few days ago (i guess a week ago, this break is slipping by already), and it couldn't've come sooner since all that homework was starting to get me down. right now i'm thoroughly enjoying sitting around basically doing nothing, catching up on reading, boozing, cleaning and photographing. so yeah, up there's a few pages from my sketchbook, all drawn throughout first semester.

i have no real plans for the next couple weeks and that's fine by me.

update: and this is what we learned in electronic media today, hdr imaging. i never like to mess with photos/illustrations too much in photoshop, so here's just a basic edit (original scan with no edit on left, hdr on right, duhhh).

qr codes are a buzzkill; they are the most distracting little squares. and i can't help but think i'd never want to scan one. anyways, finals for our poster and ad campaign for a local band of our choosing. i chose my new favourite band and friends snake charmer. rad dudes who play even radder music.

if you scroll down you can see all the process work and mess-arounds that i did before this, obviously not much of that went into the final. i ended up ditching the initial illustration because i found myself trying way too hard to make it work. which is sort of sad, but i guess that happens sometimes.

i've been working on the next issue of lomozine for the last few months, with little success as school has taken over my life. which is fine, i just wish i had more time to sit down and do this zine. not to mention my ideas and concept for the third issue have been ever-changing.

my most recent idea, which i've pretty much commited to, is to combine illustration (my practice) with film photography (my hobby). i've asked a couple people to collaborate with me on this, including luis mora (a seemingly permanent fixture in lomozine) and alex gorodskoy; so hopefully these guys will bust out some rad art for me and lomozine, as they always do.

oh and above are some mess-arounds that i've been doing with my film photos and drawings in photoshop.

hi,

so i should be working on this, but instead i'm here posting about it. blame it on our a.d.d. society, or somethin'. these are some roughs for our current and first (!) narrative assignment in second year. we were given two short stories to pick from and i chose david sedaris' "me talk pretty one day". this doesn't look like much, but, i assure you, my desk is covered in tons of scattered, loose paper; these bits are just the bits i liked the most.

i must say, as an aside, i need to look into sedaris' work some more, because what i have read is good; dark, effective, humorous. hopefully the rest of his stuff is as interesting as this. anyways, back to work, i suppose.

the show is titled "CELLAR DWELLERS", and will be hosted in the hammer city records basement.

Hammer City Records is raising a glass to the spooky month of October with CELLAR DWELLERS Art Crawl Night. The subterranean stuff of nightmares, creepy crawlies, things that go bump in the newly longer nights, creatures and spectres that inspire the plea 'Don't go in the basement!' will be on the walls and for sale.

i've been inspired by plslala a lot lately, which is why my drawings look similar, but no where near as good.

i'm only a few days into my summer, but i already miss school. mostly because i'm back to my soul-crushing, hand-ruining job. my (arty) goals thus far; take a life drawing class with a friend, work on a few still life mini-paintings, and get my act together to do some drawings for hmag that dave suggested i do.

also TCAF is soon! i had such a good time last year, bought amazing art off of alexandra mackenzie, and can't wait to spend a whole lotta money again this year.

this is the first "sculpture" that i've ever made that i've liked, as well as enjoyed making. it's pretty much just a hollowed out book, with some thread and some shredded pages and a crap-load of glue.

it was my final for one of my classes and surprisingly, took a long time to make. the theme was to create a bird's house, in whatever sense of the word, traditional, whimsical or otherwise, and this is what i came up with.

wow so, i haven't updated since march.

i went to a burlesque life drawing session called the Hollywood Sessions at this ain't hollywood in the beginning of april and here is one of the drawings i ended up with. (in all honesty, i hadn't been drawing much before that and haven't really drawn much since. yikes! i should get on that.)

anyways, it was a lot of fun and i really, really, really hope it takes off since the time i went was the first one ever. i love when artsy things happen in my city.
